DNS FAQ's:
What is DNS?
DNS stands for Domain Name System. It is a set of software and
protocols that translates a domain name into an IP address.
Why do I need DNS?
DNS is the way that Internet users locate people, computers, and
information. Every time you type in a domain name - for example,
www.girowebmedia.com - you are relying on the DNS to translate
to the numeric format that is actually used by the network(Internet).
Why do I need two DNS servers when I register a domain?
InterNIC requires that every zone have both a primary and secondary
DNS server.
What is an 'A' record?
'A' stands for 'address', also referred to as a 'host record'.
An 'A' record maps a computer's hostname to an IP address.
What is an 'MX' record?
MX records specify a 'mail exchanger' for a domain name: a host
that either process or forward email for the domain name.
I set up my DNS for my domain, but I still can't
browse to my website, what's up?
Your DNS servers have to 'propagate' your domain information to
the other DNS servers all over the world, which usually takes
between 24 and 48 hours.
How do I manage my secondary DNS server package?
Secondary DNS zones cannot be edited, they are sent from the primary
server. Therefore, there is no management interface associated
with the secondary dns package.
